The Road Trip

It was far from hustle bustle of the city. The serpant shaped tar road led to the destination amid green cover and hills. "Simple" thats how you describe the beauty. The breeze carried the fragnace of the fields. The dark overcast sky provided the cover & coolness. The cheerping of birds only broke the silence of the place. Add to the noise; the noise of five bikes cruising.

It's no Dhoom gang but a gang of friends who enjoy ride on bike backs. The long ride on weekend keeps the fun intact and provides a change of scene. Cruising on the highway with your friends in tandem, the breeze blowing past is something you can only experience but cannot pen down. So this is us, experiencing the fun and frolic of the travel.

Saturday morning, the wheels got set into motion. The meeting point Silk Board junction. The wheels kept rolling... through the traffic of Electronic City to NICE road and then to Bangalore-Mysore expressway. The destination Kanva Reservoir;  an irrigation dam 70 km from the garden city. Kanva Resorvoir built on river Kanva (a tributary of river Cauvery) is situated in Ramanagara. Never heard of the place!! How about "Ramgadh". The name would bring back some memory afresh. Ramgardh, the village of Thakur, raided more often by the notorious dacoit Gabbar and his gang in the 1975 blockbuster movie "Sholay".  In todays time  the place has the name Ramnagara.

The bikes kept rolling untill our stomach started rolling because of hunger. Breakfast time. "Kadu Mane" a resturant besides the expressway served us hot delicious idlis. After the splendid food, the travel continued. Red, Green, Yellow, Black... coloured bikes provided the hue of rainbow on the road. We followed the travel signs and reached the reservoir around midday. We already had googled about the place and had our expections low. The water body in the dam was pretty low even during these monsoon days. No signs of any food outlets. No so poplar travel destination. We took the bikes right upto the shores of the river, sat on the banks and chit chatted. The gossip continued... everyone trying to figure out on which of those rocks Samba sat when Gabbar was questioning "Kitne Admi the?". We were immersed in our gossips. And suddenly the clouds opened. From no where it started raining cat and dogs. Run for shelter!!!!. We took cover under a large baniyan tree. There we found a thatched house and people selling tea. So it was tea time. Tea made in jaggery ruled the cups. Then it was crispy, crunchy, tasty bhelpuri. Rain, tea and bhelpuri... what an awesome combination!!!!!

The rain subsided and we were back in the helm of things again. After couple of hours of photography, sight-seeing; it was time to get back. We took a different mud road along the banks of Kanva river, went through real villages, wooded hills and finally found our way back. Back on the highway and back to the foray of traffic on the roads, when the sun kept hiding behind the horizon. We tested the limit of our speedometers on the  barren NICE road. It was a different experience. A experience of adventure, fun and serene beauty. When day in and day out, you are running to meet the deadlines of work, cursing the traffic on the raod and finding it difficult to let your hair down. A experience as such slows you down and brings you closer to life & nature. So, I am glad I enjoyed the experience and I enjoyed it along the company of my friends..... Let's us plan another one!!!
